BRYANT FOOTBALL SPRING GAME
Gold 13, Black 10

SMITHFIELD, RI -  Kevin Anderson (Plainville, Conn.) scored on a one-yard run over the left guard as time expired to lead the Gold team to an exciting come-from-behind win over the Black in Bryant's annual spring football scrimmage Saturday afternoon.

The gold scored 13 unanswered points to earn the win over the Black which led 7-0 at the half and took a 10-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

Irvin Williams got things going in the second as the sophomore scored from six yards out to put the Black up 7-0.  Vincent Norris (Washington, DC) helped set up the score by hauling in a  45-yard pass from quarterback Charles Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ) on a second and five play, giving the Black a first down at the Gold 30 yard line.

A Brian Donnelly (East Dennis, MA) 33-yard field goal capped a 15-play drive by the Black midway through the third quarter, making the score 10-0, but the Gold team refused to go away.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Ross Giffune (Foxboro, MA) put the Gold on the board five plays later as he found transfer Hezekiah Ross (Decatur, GA) down the middle for a 61-yard touchdown pass to bring the Gold to within 10-7.

After a defensive stop by the Gold with just over two minutes left, Giffune drove the ball down to the Black one yard line.  A pass interference call helped keep the drive alive for the Gold as Anderson found an opening through the left side to waltz into the end zone for the game-winner.

Granatell, Bryant's starting quarterback for the past two years, completed 15 passes for 171 yards while Giffune was an effecient 7 for 11 for 115 yards and a touchdown.  Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) rushed for 67 yards on 17 carries while Norris finished with 63 yards receiving (3 catches).

Bryant, 7-3 last season under the direction of head coach Marty Fine who begins his third season this fall, will host the Owls of Southern Connecticut State visit Bulldog Stadium for the 2006 opener on September 2.

Prior to the game, coach Fine introduced the 2006 co-captains: junior Charlie Granatell, senior Lorenzo Perry, senior Chris Peaks (Silver Spring, Md.), junior Marcus Lindsey (Bridgeport, Conn.), senior Andrew McLarty (College Park, Md.), senior Justin Benevides (Portsmouth, RI) and junior Chris Wohlheter (Newark, Ohio).
