SMITHFIELD, RI - Bryant University running back LORENZO PERRY (Providence, RI) and wide receiver JUSTIN KIX (Shoreham, N.Y.) have been named to the 2006 Daktronics Division II Football All-Northeast Region team. The announcement was made today following a vote by the region's sports information directors.
Perry and Kix helped lead the Bryant football team to its best season in history. The Bulldogs set a school record with eight wins on the season at 8-3 and captured a share of its first Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Highlighting the year was the program's first-ever berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs where more than 5,000 fans turned out to see the Bulldogs host West Chester in a first round game on November 18.
Perry, named to the all-region first team, rushed for a school record 1,924 yards and 20 touchdowns this fall. In addition, he set school single-season records for rushing attempts (291); yards per rush average (6.6), yards per game (174.9 which ranks him No. 3 nationally); all-purpose yards (2,066); total points (126) and touchdowns scored with 21. The senior was named one of eight finalists last week for the 2006 Harlon Hill Trophy as the nation's best football player in Division II.
Kix, also a senior, was named second team all-region after
leading the Bulldogs with a school record 615 yards receiving in
2006. In addition, Kix set the school single-season record
with seven touchdown receptions and concludes his career at Bryant
as the all-time leader with 112 receptions for 1,650 yards and 14
touchdowns.
