SOUTH EASTON, Mass. - Bryant University football senior running back Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Football Most Valuable Player the conference office announced this morning with release of the 2006 All-Conference Teams.
The Bulldogs, 7-2 this season entering Saturday's regular season finale vs. Becker on Saturday (12 pm), placed a program record nine players on the Northeast-10 Conference Football All-Conference team, up from last year's high of five.
With 1,698 yards rushing this season, Perry ranks second nationally in Division II with an average of 188.7 yards rushing per game this season. In addition, Perry is ranked fourth in both scoring (12.0 ppg) and all-purpose yards per game with 204.6. He has 17 rushing touchdowns this season and 33 touchdowns in two seasons at Bryant.
Sharing first team honors with Perry, is wide receiver Justin Kix (Shoreham, NY), senior offensive lineman Mike Thompson (Oxford, CT), junior offensive lineman Ralph Squitieri (Orangeburg, NY), and senior linebacker Andrew McLarty (College Park, MD).
Kix holds the school record with 105 career receptions and 1,538 career receiving yards. This season, he leads the Bulldogs with 29 catches for 493 yards. On Saturday against Bentley, Kix caught his 13th career touchdown pass, tying the school record for career TD receptions.
This is the first all-conference for Thompson and the third for Squitieri who was an honorable mention selection as a freshman and second team all-conference selection as a sophomore.
McLarty makes his first appearance on the all-conference team as the only Bryant defensive player to earn first team recognition. The linebacker leads the team with 78 tackles this season and is third all-time with 193 career tackles.
Earning second team all-conference honors for the Bulldogs are junior quarterback Charlie Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ), senior tight end Alex Chaparro (North Bergen, NJ), senior offensive lineman Wes Nottingham (Hackensack, NJ), and sophomore defensive back Bryce Martins (Uncasville, CT).
Granatell comes into the week ranked third
nationally with a 167.5 passing efficiency rating and first in the
conference with 185.3 yards passing per game. Chaparro has 13
catches for 159 yards while Martins is fifth on the team with 49
tackles and 11 pass breakups.
