Football Picked to Finish Fourth in Conference Preseason Poll

BRYANT FOOTBALL PICKED FOURTH IN NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

FOXBORO, MA. - Coming off a record-breaking campaign in 2006, the Bryant University football team has been selected to finish fourth in the Northeast-10 Conference in 2006 by the conference coaches.  The announcement was made at the annual NE-10 Football Media Day at Gillette Stadium Monday afternoon. 

Powered by one of the nation's best offenses in 2006, the Bulldogs enjoyed the school's best season with an 8-3 record. They captured a share of the program's first Northeast-10 Conference title and capped the year off by hosting the school's first-ever NCAA football playoff game.

Head Coach Marty Fine and the defending Northeast-10 Conference Champion Bulldogs return to the gridiron this fall looking to return to the NCAA tournament once again.  Bryant will open the 2007 season on Saturday, September 8 against American International College at Bulldog Stadium. 

Southern Connecticut, C.W. Post, and Merrimack were picked in the top three spots respectively.   The Owls earned 91 total points with four top bids. In 2006, Southern Connecticut clinched a share of the Northeast-10 title with a conference record of 7-2 and finished 7-4 overall. The Owls also appeared in the NCAA First-Round.

The Pioneers of C.W. Post collected 84 points, edging Merrimack (81 points) who received three first-place votes. Bryant secured the final first-place vote for 69 points to finish fourth in the pole.

Bentley College rounded out the top five with 60 total points. The Falcons finished 6-5 overall and 4-4 in conference last year.
