PROVIDENCE JOURNAL- Guard Alex Grande A Big Part of Bryant Football Attack
If you were a 5-10, 180-pound cornerback, you would not want to see No. 62 for Bryant charging around the end in search of a 5-10, 180-pound cornerback to flatten. Read more of Mike Szostak's article in today's Providence Journal.
Thats because Alex Grande fills that football jersey, and the 6-foot senior weighs 270 pounds. Few cornerbacks would relish a collision with him.

PROVIDENCE JOURNAL: Bryant Tries To Show It Belongs
SMITHFIELD Throughout this season, Bryant University football coach Marty Fine is going to keep asking himself an important question.
When Fine leads his team into its first game as an independent member of Division I tomorrow at Central Connecticut, hell begin to find out whether his team is ready for the jump and, perhaps more important, which individuals can play at the next level.
I dont have those answers. I wish I did, Fine said. Some guys are not there yet but I know we have a good amount of players who are Division I players. Now its their chance to show it.

BOSTON GLOBE - Bryant Taking It Up A Notch
He is well traveled, with coaching stops from coast to coast: Sonoma State, Indiana State, Colgate, Indiana University, Iowa State, and now Bryant University.
In Marty Fine's mind, it's all college football, whether it's Division 1, 2, or 3.
"I've coached all levels, high school to the Big Ten . . . and called the plays against Oklahoma, Michigan, and Penn State," said Fine. "You're coaching young men."
This season, Fine's fifth on the Smithfield, R.I., campus, the Bulldogs, along with the university's 21 other varsity programs, are on the move, from Division 2 to 1.
After 25 practices since they reported to camp Aug. 8, the preparation is complete. The two-time defending Northeast-10 Conference champions will kick off the new era tomorrow afternoon, hitting the road to tackle future Northeast Conference foe Central Connecticut State.
Quite a remarkable leap for a program that only started football in 1999.

PROVIDENCE JOURNAL: The move to Division I starts for Bryant football
SMITHFIELD - Marty Fine may field the best team in Bryant University's 10-year football history this season, but after the final snap in November, fans might not know it.
Such is the potential for losing when a program moves up a division, as Bryant is doing this season. The Bulldogs are bigger, faster and stronger than ever, but they will run in Division I, not Division II, when they will make their Division I debut at Central Connecticut on Saturday, Aug. 30.

Football Veterans Look to Lead Bulldogs into 2008
They may have allowed a stingy 24.1 points per game last season, held opponents to 171 yards rushing and only 17 rushing touchdowns a year ago, but the Bulldog defense is going to rise to the occasion in 2008. This year's opponents (Division I) will feature much faster tailbacks and offensive weapons quite unlike those seen in year's past.
While Bryant loses standouts Jay Stahl and Mark Gunther from the defensive line, the Bulldogs will look to defensive end Don Smith (Attleboro, MA) and the Gauthier twins, Pat and Peter of Woonsocket, RI to lead the way up front.
