Offense Defeats Defense 26-25 in Annual Black & Gold Football Game Saturday

BRYANT FOOTBALL SPRING GAME - OFFENSE DEFEATS DEFENSE 26-25

 SMITHFIELD, RI -  Quarterback Jay Graber (Clarksburg, NJ) completed 8 of 19 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown as the Bryant offense defeated the defense 26-25 at Bryant's annual Black & Gold Football game Saturday.  Under bright sunny skies, the more than 1,500 fans turned out for the game which featured the offense vs. defense and concludes the Bulldog spring practice season.   Bryant will return to camp in August in preparation for its first season of Division I play in 2008.

The Bulldog defense looked strong, allowing only two touchdowns in the game, one coming on a highlight reel 60-yard pass from Graber to receiver Vinton South (Dumont, NJ) on first and 10 from the 40-yard line in the third quarter. 

Backup running back Perry Grisafi (Coral Springs, FL) helped set up the game's first touchdown thanks to a 45-yard gallop down the right sideline before going out of bounds at the defense five yard line.  Two plays later, Connor Cardew (Ipswich, MA) hauled in a three-yard touchdown pass from quarterback James Mullane (Hudson, MA).

Nick Candito (West Boylston, MA) and linebacker Paul Polomski (Franklin, MA) each had five tackles while defensive end Don Smith (Attleboro, MA) had a sack to lead the defensive effort.  Bryce Martins (Uncasville, CT) had four tackles and one interception.

The game was halted short after three quarters of play due to thunderstorms in the area.

Prior to the game, fifth-year coach Marty Fine introduced the 2008 team captains to the crowd:  senior cornerback Bryce Martins (Uncasville, CT), senior fullback, Bryan Wood (Westboro, MA), senior cornerback Michael Morgan (New London, CT), senior offensive lineman Alex Grande (New Bedford, MA) and senior linebacker Dan Curci (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ).
