The Bryant University football team hits the road for just the second time this season on Saturday when the Bulldogs head to Staten Island to take on Wagner College (2-1).  Last week, Bryant fell to Monmouth College 30-17 at home to even its record to 2-2.  Wagner  pulled out a thrilling 21-14 win at Marist College Friday night, scoring the game-winning TD with just six seconds left.  This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.  Wagner is a member of the Northeast Conference  (NEC), Bryant's future home in 2012.

THE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs head back out on the road looking for their first win over a Division I school Saturday when they travel to Staten Island to face Wagner College.  Kickoff is at 1 p.m.  The Bulldogs will look to bounce back from last week's 30-17 loss at home to Monmouth College.  After posting back-to-back wins over Division II opponents Southern Connecticut and Merrimack, the Bulldogs managed just 56 yards rushing and quarterback Jay Graber was sacked four times.  Monmouth led 17-10 after three quarters and used two David Sinisi touchdown runs in the fourth - including a 70-yarder to put the game away.  Lindsey Gamble had 43 yards rushing while Graber completed 26 of 45 passes for 261 yards.  Sophomore Anthony DiNaso (Staten Island / Poly Prep) had five catches for a career-best 70 yards.  After forcing an incredible 14 turnovers in the previous two games, the Bulldogs forced Monmouth to just one.

THE SEAHAWKS OF WAGNER
Wagner comes into Saturday's game winners of two-straight.  After falling to Division II Stonehill, 14-13 in the opener in Easton, MA, the Seahawks cruised to a 45-28 win over Iona on Sept. 13 and followed with a 21-14 win over Marist last Friday night in Poughkeepsie, New York.  Junior running back Shane Smith rushed for 131 yards on 30 carries and Iowa transfer Adam Farnsworth threw for 207 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win over Marist.  Senior running back Rodney Davis broke a 14-14 tie with a seven-yard touchdown run with just six seconds left to give Wagner the thrilling win.

TALKING POINTS
*  Bryant is 16-2 at home in the regular season over the past four seasons.  Last week's loss to Monmouth snapped a six-game win streak at home.

*  Away from home, however, has dropped four-straight dating back to last year.   The last win for Bryant away from Bulldog Stadium did come in New York (at C.W. Post on Oct. 6, 2007).

*  Bryant has allowed only one field goal this season (vs. Monmouth, 20 yards)

* Bryant has only scored 10 points in the third this year (6-yard TD pass to Steve Branch vs. So. Conn and Chris Bird 19-yard field goal vs. Monmouth)

* Bryant has a +9 in the give-away take-away department.  The Bulldogs have forced 17 turnovers and only given the ball away eight times in three games.

* While this is Bryant's first game on Staten Island, the Bulldogs have played consistently in the state of New York (vs. Pace in Pleasantville and C.W. Post in Brookville) as members of the Northeast-10 Conference. Last year, Bryant lost at Stony Brook (30-0) in a non-conference game on Long Island.

HOME SWEET HOME
The Bulldogs are 16-2 at home in regular season games in the past four seasons.  The Bulldogs were 4-0 last season and 5-1 in 2006. Before Saturday's loss to Monmouth, the previous loss was a 24-21 defeat to C.W. Post in 2006.  The Bulldogs fell to West Chester in the NCAA Playoffs that same year.

STANDING ROOM ONLY TO SEE THE BULLDOGS
Bryant, which led the Northeast-10 Conference in average attendance for four-straight seasons, drew 5,530 fans at the Sept. 13 Homecoming & Reunion game.  It was the second-largest in school history, just behind the 5,561 fans that showed up for Bryant's first-ever football game, a 30-14 win over Assumption in 1998.  The total eclipsed last year's season-best of 5,434 against Stonehill.

1.       5,561 vs. Assumption (9/26/98)

2.       5,530 vs. Merrimack (9/13/08)

3.       5,434  vs. Stonehill (10/13/07)

4.       5,234 vs. West Chester (11/18/06)

5.       4,854 vs. Merrimack (9/19/06)

FRESHMAN PICKINGS
Freshman defensive back Samad Wagstaff (New Rochelle, NY) has shown he has a nose for the ball.  Against Merrimack, Wagstaff tied a school record (held by six others) with two interceptions in the game.  In four games this season, Wagstaff has five interceptions, already the second-most in a season, trailing only Jesse Lewis who had six in 2003.

LUCKY SEVENS
After forcing Southern Connecticut into seven turnovers (3 INTs, 4 fumbles), the Bryant defense forced seven more turnovers against Merrimack on Sept. 13. The Warrior quarterbacks were intercepted five times by the Bryant defense (twice by Samad Wagstaff) and fumbled the ball away twice.  This season, Bryant has 9 interceptions and recovered 8 fumbles (forcing 17 turnovers).  Bryant's offense has thrown just six interceptions by comparison and fumbled away the ball twice (8 turnovers).   The Bulldogs entered the Monmouth game ranked No. 1 nationally in forced turnovers and interceptions.

10 YEARS OF BULLDOG FOOTBALL - TEAM GETS 50TH ALL-TIME WIN
Bryant is celebrating its 10th season of varsity football this season.  The Bulldogs, who fielded a club team in 1998, started its first varsity season in 1999.  Saturday's game is the 95th game in the history of Bryant football with the Bulldogs owning a 50-44 record.

MILESTONES:
Junior running back Lindsey Gamble went over the 1,000-yard mark against Central Connecticut in the season opener August 30, becoming the sixth player in school history to reach 1,000 yards in his career.  Teammate Jerell Smith became the seventh-player in school history last Saturday against Merrimack to reach the 1,000-yard mark.  His 130 yards rushing moves him to seventh all-time with 1,063 yards. Kicker Chris Bird, who missed his first PA attempt in his career against Southern (41-for-42 all-time), is second all-time with 12 field goals.  The sophomore, who set a school record with a 46-yarder against Central Connecticut, trails all-time leader Peter DiMartino's record of 15 career field goals.
