Bulldogs Lose Heartbreaker in Double OT

WORCESTER, MASS. – The Bryant University Field Hockey team lost a heartbreaker today against Northeast-10 rival Assumption 1-0 in double overtime.

Senior goalkeeper Kristen Patet (Portsmouth, NH) played a wonderful game for the Bulldogs making 12 saves against the Assumption attack. She came up key in the first half making five saves and in the first overtime making three more.

The Bulldog defense also played well behind the leadership of senior Jamie Wall, not giving the Greyhounds many good looks in regulation or the first overtime.

The Bulldogs had two great opportunities to score in the extra period. In the first overtime Marianne Wood had a breakaway, but the Assumption goalkeeper stopped the would be goal. The second chance came in the second overtime when Maureen Burns had a breakaway only to have her shot stopped again by the Greyhounds goalkeeper.

Following Burns' breakaway, the Greyhounds countered and scored the game winner on a shot by Sarah Roy at 92:18 in the second overtime period for the 1-0 win.

The loss takes Bryant to 1-2 and (0-1 NE-10). The Bulldogs next game will be Saturday September 4 when they travel to St. Michael’s for another Northeast-10 conference match-up.
