Burns Leads Field Hockey Past Saint Anselm

SMITHFIELD, RI ? Junior Maureen Burns (Derry, NH) led the way for the Bryant University field hockey team today as they got a win over Saint Anselm 2-0 in a game played at the Bryant Field Hockey Complex.

Burns recorded a goal and an assist on the day in the win for the Bulldogs. She started the scoring for Bryant (3-5) by giving a perfectly placed pass to freshman Courtney O?Brien (Tewksbury, Mass.) who got a wide open look and smashed the ball into the goal to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 halftime lead.

Burns then recorded a goal of her own early in the second half when she got an assist from freshman Kristin Tighe (North Easton, Mass.). The Bulldogs out-shot the Hawks 19-3 and held a nine to two advantage in penalty corners.

Senior Kristen Patat (Portsmouth, NH) played well in goal for Bryant making four saves in earning the shutout win.

Bryant will return to action Wednesday September 22, when they travel to Southern Connecticut. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
