Field Hockey Nets Three Second Half Goals In Win Over AIC Wednesday
October 20, 2004
SMITHFIELD, RI ? After a scoreless first half, the Bryant field hockey team erupted for three second half goals and held on for a 3-2 win over American International on a chilly Wednesday afternoon at the Bryant Field Hockey Complex.
Bryant (7-11) got on the board midway through the second half when junior Kerry Burke (Reading, Mass.) picked up a loose ball in front and found the back of the net to put the Bulldogs up 1-0. For Burke, it was her first goal of the season.
AIC (2-15) would answer a few minutes later as Sarah Hyde knotted the game at 1-1 with a goal following a scramble in front of Bryant goalkeeper Kristen Patat (Portsmouth, NH).
The Bulldogs would quickly respond as freshman Marianne Wood (Wakefield, Mass.) scored to make it 2-1. Playing solid defense in the midfield, the Bulldogs would get the game-winner moments later as sophomore Laynie Sadler (Rehoboth, Mass.) took a pass from freshman Courtney O?Brien (Tewksbury, Mass.) for her fifth goal of the season and first game-winner of the year to make it 3-1 Bryant.
AIC's Cynthia Reynolds would close out the scoring with a goal with under two minutes remaining, but that would be as close as the Yellow Jackets would get as the Bulldogs would hold for their fifth home win of the season.
The Bulldogs will conclude the regular season when they travel to UMass Lowell for a 7 p.m. game at Cushing Field.
