Field Hockey Falls to Assumption 4-2

SMITHFIELD, RI ? The Bryant University field hockey team lost to Northeast-10 Conference foe Assumption 4-2, in a game played today at the Bryant University Field Hockey Complex.
Assumption (3-8) got on the board early when Megan Atkins took a Kerry Kelly assist and scored five and half minutes into the game. After the goal both defensives clamped down not allowing any other goals in the half.
The second half was a different story with each team combing for five goals. Bryant (5-7) scored first in the half when junior Maureen Burns (Derry, NH) scored of an assist from sophomore Laynie Sadler (Rehoboth, Mass.) during a penalty corner to make the score 1-1.
Assumption then answered with two goals of their own. Atkins scored another goal for the Greyhounds this time off an assist from Lauren Du Bois. Seven minutes after that goal Jackie Cone put it an unassisted goal in which proved to be the game-winner.
Bryant second goal of the game again came of the stick of Burns, when she carried the ball through the Assumption defense and blasted a shot past the goalkeeper.
The Greyhounds added a late goal when Kerry Kelly scored of a Sarah Roy assists to give Assumption the 4-2 win.
The Bulldogs will return to action Saturday against Saint Michael?s at the Bryant Field Hockey Complex. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
