Senior Day a Success for Bulldogs
Bryant University wins
last regular season game 2-1 over AIC
Smithfield,
RI - The Bryant University field hockey team
defeated American International College 2-1 on a cold October
22nd Saturday morning. This was the Bulldogs’ last
regular season game culminating the 2005 field hockey season.
The Yellow Jackets got out to a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the
game on a goal by senior Kristen Wright (Lunenburg, MA). They would
hold that lead for twenty minutes until junior Laynie
Sadler (Rehoboth, MA) evened the match for Bryant at
1-1.
The game was tied 1-1 heading into the second half and would remain
tied until their were only 12 minutes remaining. That’s when
sophomore Caroline Carr (Wrentham, MA) put home
her seventh goal of the season to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
Carr also had the assist on the Sadler goal.
One of the two seniors playing her last game Maureen
Burns (Derry, NH) had the assist on the game winning goal.
She finishes her senior campaign with six goals and eight assists.
Fellow senior Kerry Burke (Reading, MA) played extremely well
patrolling the midfield for Bryant. Her crisp passes and solid
decision making helped lift the Bulldogs to the 2-1 win.
Goalkeepers Marie Grant (Weston, MA) and
Kasey Kortz (Louisville, KY) combine for just two
saves in preserving the win for Bryant. AIC goalie Cindy Armand
(Danvers, MA) played well in the cage for the Yellow Jackets making
five saves.
