TRIO OF FIELD HOCKEY SENIORS NAMED 2007 DIVISION II ALL-STARS

 SENIOR COURTNEY O'BRIEN

SMITHFIELD, RI - After a successful 2007 campaign that saw the Bryant University field hockey team go 12-8 overall and 12-4 in Northeast-10 Conference play, three Bulldog seniors were named to the 2007 NFHCA Division II Senior All-Star Game to be played Sat., Nov. 17 at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.

Seniors Caroline Carr (Wrentham, Mass.), Rebecca Lange (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Courtney O'Brien (Tewksbury, Mass.) were among the 38 players - 24 of them from the Northeast-10 Conference - to be named 2007 All-Stars.

A potent offensive weapon at forward for the Bulldogs, Carr recorded a team-high nine goals in the 2007 season, notching six assists for a team-high 24 points. Her points and goals also rank in the conference top-10, at No. 8 and tied for No. 7, respectively. Carr started all 20 games for the Bulldogs with a trio of game-winning goals and team-highs in both shots (50) and shots on goal (36).

O'Brien garners her second season honor with this All-Star accolade. Another forward with team-leading offensive production, O'Brien was named to the 2007 Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team on Oct. 24 after registering eight goals and six helpers in the 2007 season, starting all 20 games for Bryant. Her 22 points tie her for ninth in the league.

Joining Carr and O'Brien on the 2007 All-Star squad is Lange. A 20-game starter on defense, Lange is a stronghold on a Bulldog back line that posted three shutouts and allowed just 1.85 goals per game this year.

The Bulldogs were knocked out of the Northeast-10 tournament in a 3-1 quarterfinal loss to Saint Anselm, but finished the season ranked No. 9 in the latest STX/NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the latest Division II North Regional poll. Game time for the All-Star contest is 5:30 p.m.
