SMITHFIELD, RI - Fifth-ranked UMass Lowell scored two second half goals to rally from a 2-1 halftime defeat No. 8 Bryant University 3-2 Tuesday night at the Turf Field Complex. Bryant, with the loss, drops to 8-5 overall on the year and 8-2 in the NE-10 while UMass Lowell improves to 10-2 overall and 9-1 in league play.
UMass Lowell took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute as Katie Enaire beat Bryant goalie Kundayi Mawema to put the River Hawks up 1-0. But the Bulldogs would respond, thanks to a pair of goals from senior Courtney O'Brien. O'Brien's first came in the 28th minute and only three minutes later, O'Brien beat the River Hawk defense with a strong rush down the right side and put the Bulldog on top 2-1.
Sammy Macy, this week's NE-10 Freshman of the Week, evened the contest with a goal following a penalty corner and Enaire tallied her second of the night with the game-winner in the 51st minute.
The Bulldogs had a chance to get the equalizer late in the game with three penalty corners, including one at the end of regulation, but could not find the back of the net as Danielle Dodier made seven saves for UML in the contest.
Mawema made 10 saves in goal for the Bulldogs as UMass Lowell out-shot Bryant 16 to 12. The Bulldogs travel to Merrimack on Thursday night.
