BULLDOGS TOPPED BY MAINE, 7-0, SATURDAY AFTERNOON
ORONO, Maine - Led by a hat trick from Kelly Newton, the University of Maine field hockey team topped Bryant University, 7-0, Saturday afternoon in Orono, Maine.
The Bulldogs (1-6) could muster just two shots - one each from freshman Katherine Andrusin (North Andover, Mass.) and senior Jenna DeMello (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) - against the Black Bears' stingy defense, while Maine (3-3) managed to send 24 shots on net.
Junior Kundayi Mawema (Harare, Zimbabwe) recorded 17 saves on the afternoon, while Maine goalkeeper Brittany Fleck needed just one en route to a win.
Newton led the game with seven shots, six on goal.
The Bulldogs next travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on LaSalle University, Tuesday, Sept. 23. Game time is 4 p.m.
