FIELD HOCKEY OPENS 2009 CAMPAIGN AT HOFSTRA TOURNAMENT; TO PLAY MAINE SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN SEASON OPENER

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- First-year head coach Shaunessy Saucier will face an opponent she knows all too well in her debut.

The Bryant University field hockey team, under the leadership of Saucier, gets set to open its 2009 campaign and second season of Division I action this weekend at the Hofstra Tournament in Hempstead, N.Y. The Bulldogs will open the year against Saucier's alma mater, the University of Maine, Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs will then take on host Hofstra University Monday, Aug. 31 at 1 p.m.

Bryant's weekend opponents faced off Saturday night, with the host Pride taking a 1-0 overtime win over the visting Black Bears.
