BULLDOGS LOOK FOR FIRST WIN OF 2009 IN HOME OPENER SATURDAY AGAINST LEHIGH
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University field hockey team returns to the field Saturday afternoon for its 2009 home opener, when the Bulldogs will host Lehigh University in search of their first win of the season.
The Bulldogs (0-2) will also be looking for a bit of revenge Saturday against the Mountain Hawks (0-2), who topped Bryant, 4-1, early last season in Bethlehem, Pa.
Now junior Elise Boissoneau (Ashburnham, Mass.) scored Bryant's lone goal in the 2008 bout, while senior captain Kundayi Mawema (Harare, Zimbabwe) made 12 stops between the pipes as Lehigh outshot the Bulldogs, 22-6.
Both teams enter this weekend's contest looking for its first win of the season. The Mountain Hawks come to Smithfield having suffered a season-opening 8-2 loss to Rider and a 5-0 loss to West Chester on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs look forward to the opener after a tough but encouraging loss to Hofstra, 3-2, in their last outing.
Saturday's game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at the Bryant Turf Complex.
