Shaunessy Saucier enters the 2011 season in her third year at the helm for the Bryant University field hockey team. The program is coming off a historic third-place (8-12, 5-2 NEC) in the Northeast Conference in 2010, during which the Bulldogs became the first team in school history to qualify for a Division I postseason tournament.
Saucier had many standout players in the 2010 season, as senior defender Brittany Glenn became the first player named a Division I all-conference first team selection. Glenn, along with sophomore Chiedza Mawema, also became the first athletes in school history to be selected to the NEC All-Tournament Team. Juniors Courtney Landi and Katherine Andrusin were also rewarded with Northeast Conference postseason recognition, both earning All-NEC Second Team honors.
In 2009, the former University of Maine standout led the Bulldogs to three wins in the final four games, as Bryant saw a five-game swing in overall victories from 2008. For the first time, the program played a full Northeast Conference slate and Saucier saw a pair of her Bulldogs earn postseason league honors for their performances. Both Courtney Landi and 2010 graduate Kundayi Mawema received All-Northeast Conference Second Team accolades, marking the first Division I postseason honors for the Bulldog program.
A 2005 graduate of Maine, Saucier was promoted to head coach of the Bryant field hockey program in 2009 after one season as an assistant with the Bulldogs. Bryant went 2-16 in its inaugural Division I campiagn in 2008, earning wins over Mansfield and Siena.
Before arriving in Smithfield, Saucier was an assistant for her alma mater, joining the Black Bear coaching staff in 2007. While in Orono, she assisted in the planning and organizing of team practices, camps and clinics and played a major role in the recruitment of student-athletes, both nationally and internationally. In addition, Saucier oversaw the academic progress of the Maine field hockey team, a squad that would end up posting the fourth-highest team GPA in the country in 2007. Saucier also acted as site director and head coach of USA Field Hockey Futures Region IA and is currently the head coach for Futures Region 3F in Connecticut.
As a player at Maine from 2001-05, Saucier was a two-time team captain, earning America East honors, Commissioner's Honors and playing in three conference championship games. A scholar-athlete all five years, she earned America East All-Academic Team accolades and NFHCA Academic Team recognition, and was a two-time Gold Medallion winner (2004 and 2005).
