Men's Basketball Signs Three Recruits For 2004-05
Bryant men's basketball coach Max Good is pleased to announce the addition of three student-athletes, including Smithfield High School standout John Fogarty, who will enroll and participate in intercollegiate men's basketball in 2004-05. The announcement was made today by coach Good and Athletics Director Dan Gavitt.
John Fogarty, Forward, 6-7, Smithfield, R.I. / Smithfield
One of the top players in Division I-A, Fogarty led the state runner-up Sentinels to an 18-0 regular season record (20-1 overall) with 20.0 points per game, 15.0 rebounds per game, and 7.5 blocks per game. He had a game-high 25 points in Smithfield’s 53-47 win over Warwick in the semifinals of the Division I-A playoffs, and he powered Smithfield past Rogers, 61-59, in the semifinals with 26 points an 14 rebounds. Fogarty, coached by Joe Bennett, was a First Team All-State selection.
Jon Ezeokoli, Guard, 6-3, Newark, N.J./ St. Benedicts
Averaged 12.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a senior … Third-team all-state selection … McDonald’s All-American nominee … Helped lead St. Benedicts to a 29-2 record and No. 8 national ranking as a senior and 27-3 record and No. 13 ranking nationally as a junior … Played for Danny Hurley, one of the premiere prep coaches in the country. Ezeokoli was the team captain along with J.R. Smith who was the 18th pick of the New Orleans Hornets of the N.B.A. and Alex Galindo who is heading to Kansas this fall.
A.J. Mahar, Forward, 6-7, Bennington, Vermont / Mount Anthony
Led Mount Anthony to the Division I semifinals for the second consecutive year in 2004 … Played for coach Dan Sleeman where he finished as the school's all-time scoring leader, including 541 points as a senior … Scored 56 points in a game against Rutland (Vt.) and added 98 blocks and 99 assists … Burlington Free Press First Team selection in 2004 and Second Team selection in 2003 … VBCA Player of the Year … Vermont's McDonald's All-American nominee in 2004 … VBCA Coaches' Dream Dozen Underclassmen honoree in 2003
Bryant, located in Smithfield, R.I., is a member of the Division II Northeast-10 Conference. The Bulldogs are coming off its best season in school history, finishing 23-10 overall (14-8 in conference) and advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen before falling in the NCAA Regional Final.
