Bryant travels to UMass - Lowell on Wednesday evening for a Northeast-10 Conference men’s basketball game with the River Hawks. This will be the first meeting of the year between Bryant and UMass Lowell and the first since the two teams met in the NCAA Northeast Regional Final on March 16, 2004 at Lowell. The River Hawks pulled out an exciting 63-62 win over the Bulldogs, denying Bryant a trip to the Elite Eight. Bryant is currently in sixth place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings at 9-6 (13-6 overall) and just a half game ahead of UMass Lowell and Pace (one game ahead in the loss column at 9-7). UMass Lowell is 13-8 overall this season and have dropped two straight, falling at home to Saint Anselm 92-79 on Thursday and dropping an 81-71 decision at surprising Le Moyne Saturday in Syracuse, N.Y.

JOHN WILLIAMS NETS 30 IN BRYANT’S WIN OVER FRANKLIN PIERCE

John Williams (Springfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 30 points as Bryant rolled to a 68-56 win over Franklin Pierce last Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center. The Bulldogs raced out to an 11-2 lead three minutes into the game with Williams accounting for nine of Bryant’s first 11 points and finished with 21 in the first half alone. A layup from Williams gave Bryant a 57-32 lead in the second half and the Bulldogs never looked back. Bryant shot 48.1 percent from the floor and made 10 three-point field goals - the eighth time this year Bryant has made at least ten three’s in a game. The Bulldogs were also whistled for a season-low 10 fouls. Mike Williams (Ellington, Conn.) had 7 points and three blocks while Mario Correia (Brockton, Mass.) chipped in with nine points and had a pair of steals.

LOOKING AT THE RIVER HAWKS

UMass Lowell, the defending Northeast-10 Conference champion, comes into Wednesday’s game 13-8 and 9-7 in the NE-10. Junior Stacey Moragne leads the conference in scoring this year with 23.5 ppg and is fourth in rebounding with 9.0 caroms per contest. The junior can score from the inside and out, having knocked down 21 three’s this year. The River Hawks swept all three games from the Bulldogs last season, including the NCAA matchup.

WILLIAMS ON THE INSIDE

Senior Mike Williams became the 28th player in Bryant school history to reach the 1,000-point mark for his career Dec. 20, 2004 in the team’s win at Holy Family in Philadelphia. Williams, the owner of Bryant’s school career blocks (259) and single season blocks (90) records, has 857 career rebounds (3rd all-time). Williams needs 12 rebounds to pass former teammate Jason Noel (868) for second. Ernie DeWitt’s is the all-time rebound leader with 1,036. Williams is also an Academic All-American nominee for 2005.

WILLIAMS ON THE OUTSIDE

Junior John Williams, second in the conference in scoring with 20.6 ppg . Williams has made 67 of 140 from beyond the arc this year, matching his total as a freshman. He is also just 20 shy of the school single season record of 87 held by Romuald Augustin last year.

John Williams has turned the ball over just seven times in the team’s last six games - AVERAGE OF JUST OVER ONE TURNOVER A GAME DURING THAT SPAN of which Williams, the team’s point guard, has played in 204 MINUTES (ave. of 34 minutes per game) ... Wednesday’s game vs. UMass Lowell will be the 108th game coached by Max Good at Bryant. It will also be Good’s 355th as a head coach in 13 seasons ... After posting a 12-3 record at home last season, the Bulldogs are 7-4 this year at the Chace Athletic Center ... The win over AIC on Jan. 17 was the first this year when trailing at the half.

SENIOR DAY COMING UP

With only two more home games following today’s tilt with Franklin Pierce, Bryant will honor seniors Jarett Love (Roselle, N.J.), Josh Longstaff (Portland, Maine), Mike Niedzwiecki (Sutton, Mass.), Mario Correia (Brockton, Mass.), Cullen McCarthy (Mansfield, Mass.), and Mike Williams (Ellington, Conn.) who will be playing for the final time at home. Mike Williams, a graduate who was granted a medical redshirt, is the only player on the Bryant roster to play for former coach Ed Reilly.

GETTING THEIR DUE

Bryant will honor 143 student-athletes earning Bryant Athletic Academic Honor Roll recognition for the fall semester during halftime of the Feb. 5 game with Southern N.H. ... The Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Champion Bryant volleyball team will be honored during halftime of the women’s game with Saint Anselm on Feb. 12 while the 2004 World Series Participant baseball squad will be recognized during halftime of the men’s game with Saint Anselm, also on Feb. 12.
