100th Game Saturday for Coach Good

FALCONS SOAR PAST BULLDOGS THURSDAY

Sean Cooke scored a game-high 20 points and Tim Forbes had all of his 16 points in the second half as 9th-ranked Bentley College pulled away late for a 76-69 win over Bryant University here at the Chace Athletic Center Thursday night. Bryant saw its five-game win streak snapped as the Bulldogs were held to just 37.3 percent shooting. Bentley held the Bulldogs to without a single point in the final 2:43. A Mike Williams basket in the lane helped Bryant pull even with the Falcons at 69-69, but that would be all the points for the Bulldogs from there as Bentley closed out the game with a 7-0 run. Bryant, led by John Williams' 18 points, made just 4-of-16 from three-point range, all coming in the first half as the Bulldogs took a 37-36 lead into the locker room at the half. Mike Williams had 14 points and seven rebounds while Mario Correia added 13.

STONEHILL CHIEFTAINS

Stonehill’s 9-3 start to the year is the best in eight seasons ... Evan Pellerin leads the way in scoring with 17.7 ppg and 8.6 rebounds per game while Dezmond Morgan is close behind with 15.0 ppg. Marquis Taylor, who had 12 points against AIC, is averaging 14.1 ppg and 7.3 rebounds per game for the balanced Chieftains. Head coach David McLaughlin is in his first full season as coach at Stonehill. McLaughlin, a 1997 Colby graduate, was 5-12 as the interim coach for the final two months of last year’s season at Stonehill.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs will host Merrimack on Tuesday and Assumption next Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center.

ARE WE IN THE NINETIES ?

Bryant has scored at least 90 points in three of its last five games. The Bulldogs put up a season-best 99 points on Bloomfield on Dec. 30 and had 90 at Assumption Monday night.

BIG MILESTONE FOR BIG MIKE

Senior Mike Williams became the 28th player in Bryant school history to reach the 1,000-point mark for his career Dec. 20 in the team’s win at Holy Family in Philadelphia. Williams had 21 points in the game and reached the milestone by converting a free throw after scoring a basket inside and was fouled with 8:48 left in the first half. Williams, the owner of Bryant’s school career blocks (245) and single season blocks (90) records, has 803 career rebounds (3rd all-time). Williams needs 66 rebounds to pass former teammate Jason Noel (868) for second. Ernie DeWitt’s is the all-time rebound leader with 1,036.

BURNS MAKES A COMEBACK

Sophomore Chris Burns has made a strong return to the lineup after suffering a facial injury in the opener against AIC. Burns, wearing a protective mask, scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds off the bench last Monday at Assumption. Burns was named the NE-10 Freshman of the Year last season. Against Bentley on Thursday, Burns made just 1 of 7 from the floor in 25 minutes of action.

SUPER MARIO

Senior Mario Correia of Brockton, Mass. and Cape Verdi, West Africa, has been playing well as of late. Scoring 24 points against Bloomfield last week, Correia shot 8-of-15 from the floor to finish with 18 points and grabbed five rebounds in the team’s 90-62 win over Assumption. For his efforts last week, Correia earned Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll distinction. He attended Massasoit Community College for a year before heading to Bryant.

BULLDOG BITES

Bryant is coming off back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1982 ... Saturday’s game vs Stonehill will be the 100th game coached by Max Good at Bryant. It will also be Good’s 347th as a head coach in 13 seasons ... After posting a 12-3 record at home last season, the Bulldogs are 4-3 this year at the Chace Athletic Center ... The Bentley loss was just the second time Bryant has dropped a game when leading at the half (7-2).
