Bulldogs Visit Bentley Thursday Night

BRYANT MEN VISIT BENTLEY THURSDAY NIGHT
Bulldogs Riding Three-Game Win Streak

UPDATE: 
The Bryant men's basketball team travels to Bentley College Thursday evening for a showdown with the Falcons. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. at the Dana Center.  This will be the first meeting between Bryant and Bentley since squaring off last year in the NCAA Regional Championship in Waltham on March 15, a game won by the Bulldogs, 74-64 … Bryant, led by the play of senior guard John Williams (Springfield, MA) who comes into the game fourth in the conference with 19.0 points per game, has won three in-a-row following Monday's 94-88 overtime win against Assumption at the Chace Athletic Center … Williams had 24 points while junior Chris Burns (Merrimack, NH) added 22 (4 three's) and sophomore Jon Ezeokoli (South Orange, NJ) chipped in with 21 … The Bulldogs are currently leading the conference with 80.2 points per game, though 12th in defense as Bryant allows 72.1 ppg … The Bulldogs will return home to host Stonehill this Saturday (Jan. 7) at 1:30 pm. 

BULLDOG NOTABLES ….

  • Bryant set a school record with 25 wins last year, becoming the first Northeast-10 Conference team to reach the NCAA Championship game (Bryant fell to Virginia Union, 63-58).
  • Bryant outscored it's two opponents at the Comfort Suites tourney, 213-149.  In addition, the Bulldogs made 22 three's in both games, allowing just six;  Had 29 steals to opponents 9.
  • The Bulldogs are 2-3 on the road this season, 5-0 at home, and 1-0 on neutral courts
  • Bryant leads the conference with a .415 three-point field goal percentage and 9.73 three-point field goals per game.
  • The Bulldogs have made 32 three's in the last three games including 10 against Assumption on Monday.
  • John Williams has 243 career three-pointers and needs 53 to break the school record of 295 held by Jason Bennett.  

LAST TIME OUT: John Williams scored a game-high 24 points and drained six three-point field goals in leading Bryant to a 94-88 overtime win against Assumption at the Chace Athletic Center Monday night.  Bryant led 41-40 at the half, but Assumption took a 67-62 early in the second half thanks to a 15-4 run.  But the Bulldogs would respond with a 13-3 run of their own to regain the lead once again.  After Chris Burns hit a pair of free throws, Assumption's Josh Melucci hit a three with 20 seconds left to send the game into overtime. In the extra period, the Bulldogs outscored the Greyhounds, 15-9 and made 9 of 10 free throws in the overtime session to hold on for the win. 

SCORING AT ALL LEVELS:
This season, Bryant has seen its point total range from highs (over 100 twice) and lows (51 pts vs. Stonehill).  The Bulldogs have scored in the 50's once, 60's three times, 70's twice, 80's once, 90's twice, and over 100 twice.  The 111 points vs. 12th-ranked Holy Family on Dec. 29 was the most for Bryant under coach Max Good in five seasons, and the 5th-best in school history.  Bryant scored 102 points the night before against Bloomfield, marking the first time Bryant has gone over the century mark in back-to-back games since the 1976-77 season.

THREE OF KIND FROM THREE:The Bulldogs have found success from the outside this season, with John Williams, Chris Burns, and Jon Ezeokoli accounting for 86 of Bryant's 107 three-pointers.  Williams leads the Bulldogs with 35 treys while Burns and Ezeokoli aren't too far behind with 27 and 24 respectively.  Ezeokoli is currently leading the conference with a .571 three-point field goal percentage.

WILLIAMS MAKES AGAIN PACING BRYANT OFFENSE: Senior guard John Williams has continued his strong shooting in leading the Bulldogs in scoring this season.  The Springfield, MA native was a first team all-conference selection last season and earned MVP honors of the NCAA Regional Championship. In addition, he was named all-region after setting a school record with 119 three's on the year.  Invited to the prestigious Portsmouth Basketball Camp in Virginia, Williams is currently 11th all-time at Bryant with 1,335 career points and second 243 career three's.  This season, he has been named NE-10 Player of the Week once (Nov. 21) and to the NE-10 Honor Roll once (Dec. 5).

 * Junior guard Chris Burns (Merrimack, NH) is currently second on the team in scoring and has made 27 three-pointers this season.

 * Freshman Nick Pontes (New Bedford, MA) averaged 12.7 ppg and 5.7 rebounds per game in leading Bryant to three wins.  The freshman scored a career-high 18 points on 8 of 9 shooting from the floor, and grabbed five rebounds in Bryant’s win over Bloomfield and followed with 10 points and nine rebounds in Bryant’s win over Holy Family. He tallied 10 points and two blocks in the team’s win over Assumption Monday.
