DESHON GAITHER NAMED MEN’S ASSISTANT BASKETBALL COACH AT BRYANT UNIVERSITY
SMITHFIELD, RI – Bryant University head
men’s basketball coach Max Good has announced the hiring of
Deshon Gaither as assistant men’s basketball coach. The
announcement was made today by Coach Good and Interim Director of
Athletics John Ruppert.
Deshon Gaither begins his first year as an assistant men’s
basketball coach with the Bulldogs in 2005. Arriving from
Charlotte, North Carolina, Gaither was an assistant coach for the
past season with the Carolina Thunder / Krunk of the American
Basketball Association (ABA) for the past season. During his
time in Charlotte, he served as an advanced player scout for the
NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats was well as International teams in
France and Belguim.
Prior to arriving at Charlotte, Gaither was the head assistant
basketball coach in Guelph, Ontario with the Ontario Professional
Basketball League (OPBA). Guelph went 36-0 en route to the
OPBA Championship.
A native of South Bend, Indian, Gaither is a graduate of Mount St.
Clare College in Clinton, Iowa where he earned defensive MVP
honors as a member of the men’s basketball team and earned
academic all-conference and Dean’s List honors while also
competing as a member of the Mount St. Clare College track &
field team.
Following graduation, Gaither served as an assistant coach at Mount
St. Clare from 1998-99 and again in 2001-02, as well as Marycrest
International University in Davenport, IA from 1999-01.
In June of 2002, Gaither was named the head coach of the Barat
College (DePaul University) men’s basketball team in Lake
Forest, IL. During his two-year stay at Barat, Gaither was
responsible for all recruiting, travel, planning team schedules,
and coordinating academic progress of the
student-athletes.
