Williams Setting The Tempo A Bulldogs Make Push For Playoffs
SMITHFIELD, RI - Bryant University senior guard John
Williams has been a key reason behind the Bullogs' recent
success and his numbers are starting to show. The native of
Springfield, Mass., is currently ranked in the top-10 nationally in
three categories and is coming off a stellar weekend that included
a career-high 38 points, career-high 8 rebounds in a Bryant's 87-80
win over Saint Anselm Saturday. For his efforts, Williams was
recognized by the conference on the weekly honor roll.
Bryant takes a four-game win streak into Wednesday's game with Saint Michael's College at the Chace Athletic Center (7:30 pm tip). In the past seven games, Williams has averaged 25 points a game and has made 36 three point field goals. He needs just two three's Wednesday to break the school record for career three's of 295 held by Jason Bennett '00.
Williams is currently ranked No. 4 nationally with a 3-point field goal percentage of 48 percent. He is also ranked 8th nationally with a 3.6 three's per game average and is No. 7 in the country with an 89.9 free throw percentage. Williams, who was a perfect 10-for-10 in the team's win over Saint Anselm (region's No. 2 team), has made 41-straight free throws dating back to Jan. 5.
Since January 24th, Williams has made 36 of his conference leading 86 three-point field goals, draining seven in a win over Pace and hitting 6 three's against Franklin Pierce, UMass Lowell, and Saint Anselm.
Following Wednesday's game, the Bulldogs will host
Bentley College on Saturday afternoon for a key Northeast-10
Conference matchup with the first-place Falcons. Tipoff
is at 3:30 pm.
