Men's Basketball Returns to Action Friday At Adelphi

MEN'S BASKETBALL BACK IN ACTION FRIDAY AT ADELPHI
BRYANT UPDATE
* The Bryant men's basketball team, idle for exams since a
59-56 loss to Stonehill back on Dec. 12, will hit the road Friday
for a non-conference game at Adelphi. Tip-off is set for 7
pm. It will be the only game for the Bulldogs during a span
of 16 days as Bryant will return to action Friday, Dec. 28 hosting
Post University in the Bryant Holiday Classic at the Chace Athletic
Center.
* This will be the only meeting of the year between Bryant and Adelphi. The two teams last meet in the first round of the NCAA Division II Regional tournament in Waltham, Mass. Bryant, behind 25 points from Orlando Baeza (Palmdale, CA), rolled to a 77-55 win in the game. Baeza is redshirting this season due to an injury.
* Senior guard Jon Ezeokoli (South Orange, NJ) leads the Bulldogs with 14.6 ppg on the season while sophomore guard Chris Birrell (Scituate, RI) is the only other player averaging double figures this season as the transfer from CCRI comes into Friday's game scoring 11.3 ppg. Birrell leads the conference with 24 steals and is shooting 81 percent at the line (21-26). The Bulldogs shot just 35 percent from the floor in the loss to Stonehill. Freshman Barry Latham (Taunton, Mass.) had 11 pts and five blocks in the game. Ezeokoli led the way with 19 points.
LOOKING AT ADELPHI
The Panthers come into the game with the country's 13th-best
scoring defense in allowing just 59.1 points per game.
Opponents are shooting just 38.4 percent from the floor on the
season. Adelphi is coming off a 56-52 win over Caldwell
College back on Dec. 15. Richard Byrd is averaging 12.4
ppg.
REPEAT OF LAST YEAR?
*The Bulldogs were 5-4 last year at this time after nine games into
the season - including a loss at Stonehill. The Bulldogs
would go on to win 9 of its next 10 in advancing to the NCAA
tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
COMING UP
* Following Christmas break, the Bulldogs will host the Bryant
Holiday Classic Dec. 28-29 with Assumption, Philadelphia, and Post
University competing. The Bulldogs will open with Post University
on Friday at 5 pm before facing Philadelphia in Saturday's 7 pm
game.
BULLDOGS ON TV
* In addition to the Bulldogs appearing on NE10.tv each night, the
Feb. 2 game at Bentley will be broadcast live online on
CSTV.com. For the second consecutive year, Bryant will also
play live to the local community with an appearance on Cox Sports
TV-3 February 16 when the Bulldogs host Southern Connecticut.
NOTABLES
* Former Bryant standout Chris Burns of Merrimack, NH is playing
for the Albany Patroons of the CBA. He has not played yet this
season due to an injury but recently rejoined the team.
* Burns joins other former teammates now playing professionally: Romauld Augustin (Fayetteville Patriots of the NBA Developmental League); Mike Williams (Irish National Team); Mario Correia (Africa); John Williams (France).
