Men's Basketball Announces New Staff Additions

BRYANT UNIVERSITY NAMES KEVIN KURBEC ASSISTANT MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH; PETE KAHLER NAMED MEN'S BASKETBALL DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS 

SMITHFIELD, R.I.  -  First-year Bryant University men's basketball coach Tim O'Shea is pleased to announce the hiring of Kevin Kurbec as assistant men's basketball coach and the appointment of Pete Kahler as director of men's basketball operations.  The announcement was made today by O'Shea and Director of Athletics Bill Smith. 

A native of Smithfield, R.I. and 2002 graduate of Providence College, Kurbec comes to Bryant after spending 10 seasons with the Friar men's basketball team.  As an undergraduate, Kurbec served as a team manager for four years (1998-2002) before moving to the position of graduate assistant from 2002-05.  In 2005, Kurbec was named director of basketball operations where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the men's basketball office. 

In addition to monitoring the team's academic progress as the program's liaison with the office of academic services, Kurbec was the co-director of the Tim Welsh Summer Basketball Camp. 

A 1998 graduate of Smithfield High School and 2002 graduate of Providence, where he later earned his master's degree in business in 2005, Kurbec has worked as a youth basketball coach for the Rhode Island CYO and AAU leagues from 1997-02 and has also coached at the Eastern Invitational Basketball Camps in 2004-05. 

Kahler comes to Bryant from Ohio University where he previously was a member of O'Shea's staff as the team's video coordinator for two seasons.  While at OU, Kahler assisted the coaching staff with video scouting reports as well as handling the team's travel and operational activities and served as the team's assistant director of the basketball summer camps.  A 2006 graduate of Xavier University, Kahler is currently finishing his master's degree from Ohio University.
