Practice is underway for the Bryant men's basketball team as the Bulldogs prepare for the upcoming 2009-10 season, the Bulldogs' second competing at the Division I level.  Second-year coach Tim O'Shea will welcome back six lettermen including three starters from last year's squad that went 8-21 on the season.

The Bulldogs will host Concordia in an exhibition on October 30 in the final tuneup before the opener November 13 at Providence.

Senior forward Cecil Gresham (Bloomfield, CT) returns after a very successful season a year ago that saw him lead the team with a 13.4 points per game scoring average and earn Division I Independent Honorable Mention honors.  Gresham started in 28 games and had 21 games in double figures. He averaged 20.7 ppg in Bryant's three games against UConn, Boston College and Providence.

Nick Pontes (New Bedford, MA) is back for his senior season at the power forward spot while guard Chris Birrell (Scituate, RI) averaged 6.2 ppg and 3.5 assists per game as a junior.

O'Shea welcome seven newcomers to the program this year as the Bulldogs will certainly look a bit bigger along the front line this year thanks to the arrival of freshmen Vladyslav Kondratyev (6-8, 220, Gainsville, FL), seven-footer Alex Herzing (7-0, 215, Pottstown, PA) and sophomore Papa Lo (6-9, 202, Winchenden, MA) who sat out last year after transferring from UMass.

Kondratyev, a native of the Ukraine, prepped at The Rock School and was rated No. 19 in Florida as a member of AAU Nike Team Florida.  Lo, a native of Theiss, Senegal, played in 22 games for UMass as a freshman in 2007-08 where he blocked 25 shots.  Lo sat out this past season as a transfer and will have three years of eligibility remaining. Herzing will give the Bulldogs a big, strong low-post presence.  He is a graduate of Virginia Episcopal in Lynchburgh, VA and enrolled as a post-graduate at The Hill School. The Bulldogs also added a pair of players to the roster this spring.  Claybrin McMath , a 6-foot-8 shooting-forward from Adelaide,???Australia and 6-foot-3 point guard Frankie Dobbs, a transfer from Ohio University who will have to sit out for the 2009-10 season but will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Also new to the program are a pair of guards from John Carroll School in Bel Air, Maryland: Raphael Jordan (6-1, 180) and Erick Smith (6-3, 185).  Jordan is a hard-nosed defender who finished his career at John Carroll in the top-10 all-time in points, assists, free throws and steals.  Smith has tremendous athleticism and good range to get to the rim and finish.
