BRYANT MEN'S GOLF WINS FOURTH-STRAIGHT NCAA
REGIONAL TITLE WEDNESDAY
Bulldogs Advance to NCAA Finals For 25th
Time
JACKSON, N.J. -- The Bryant University men's golf team won its
fourth-straight NCAA Regional Championship and eighth regional
title since the NCAA went to a regional format in 1996 as the
Bulldogs cruised to a 13-stroke win at the three-day tournament.
The Bulldogs, led by the strong play of co-medalist Jim
O'Connell (Troy,
N.Y.) will now advance to the
NCAA Finals for the 25th time in 27 NCAA appearances when the team
travels to Savannah, George, May
17-20.
Bryant shot a 307 today and finished with a three-day total of 910
for the tournament. Host St. Thomas Aquinas scored a 310
today and finished second with 923. Leading the way Wednesday
was O'Connell who shot a 73 to finish at 220 during the three
rounds, while Mike Philipp came in at 77 with North
Attleboro's and Bishop Feehan graduate Brenden
Smith shooting a 78.
Bryant's senior duo of Dan Falcucci and Dave Falcucci of Northboro, Mass. shot a 79 and 81 respectively at the par 72 Pine Barrens Golf Club. Both Falcucci's helped lead Bryant to four regional titles during their careers at Bryant.
Under coach Archie Boulet, the Bulldogs have qualified for 27 NCAA Championships and have reached the NCAA finals 25 times during his 41 year career.
