Bulldogs Capture First Place at Dowling College Shootout

OAKDALE, NY - Bryant University senior Brenden Smith (North Attleboro, Mass.) shot a two-day total 145 and senior Jim O'Connell (Troy, NY) scored a two-day 146 to help lead the Bryant men's golf team to a win at the Dowling College Shootout over the weekend on Long Island. 

Smith opened with a 71 on Sunday and followed with a score of 74 to finish fifth individually.  O'Connell shot a round of 70 during the tournament.

The Bulldogs edged St. Thomas Aquinas by four strokes to claim first place, shooting a 290 on the opening day and finishing with a 298 for a two-day total of 588.  St. Thomas Aquinas was second at 592 with Dowling (603) and Southern N.H. (613) finishing third and fourth respectively.

The Bulldogs got a strong effort from Kristofer Hart (East Longmeadow, Mass.) who was two over for the tournament wtih a 148 after shooting a 74 each day.  Mike Philipp (Bristol, Conn.) was tied for 17th with a 153 while freshman Rob Rooney came in at 155 to finish tied for 21st.
