CONGDON IN FIRST AFTER DAY 1 OF NCAA DII SUPER REGIONAL, LEADS BRYANT TO SECOND PLACE STANDING ENTERING TUESDAY'S ACTION
MIDDLETOWN, Dela. -- Shooting a course-par 71 in Day One action, Bryant University senior Scott Congdon (Foxboro, Mass.) leads the pack of 45 at the 2008 NCAA Division II East/Northeast Super Regional, leading the Bulldogs to a second-place standing after the first round of the three-day tournament.
As a team, the Bulldogs shot a 300 for the day -- 16 over par -- and trail only St. Thomas Aquinas, who shot a 299. Pace University is currently third with a 303, while Post (307) and UMass Lowell (310) round out the top 5 in the eight-team super regional.
Congdon's 71 won the day, leading St. Thomas Aquinas's Patrick Schwarze by one stroke. Bryant sophomore Jason Thresher (West Suffield, Conn.) is currently tied for fourth with a 74 after Round One play.
Nick Caccia finished the day five over and tied for 10th overall, while Eric Tankanow shot a 79 to be tied for 23rd. Mike Phillipp looks to get back near the top in Tuesday's Round Two after handing in an 82 (T-34) in Monday's action.
