THRESHER, BULLDOGS IN FOURTH AFTER DAY ONE OF NORTHEAST INVITATIONAL
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Jason Thresher (West Suffield, Conn.) shot a first-round 75 to lead the Bryant University men’s golf team into fourth place after the first day of Northeast Invitational action, hosted by URI Saturday and Sunday.
Thresher’s 75 was good to tie him for fourth overall in the 58-golfer field and was the best of Bryant’s five golfers, as the Bulldogs shot a 309 as a team and sits just seven strokes behind leader and host University of Rhode Island entering Sunday play.
Senior Mike Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) sits in a tie for 12th overall after a round of 77 while junior Spencer Sweitzer (Lunenburg, Mass.) is close behind with a score of 78 (T-19). Classmate Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.) is just a single stroke back from Sweitzer and sits in 26th. Grant Certuse (Mansfield, Mass.) posted an 83 on the day and is currently tied for 40th overall.
The Rams’ Taylor Fontaine is the individual leader after Saturday’s first round and is alone in first place with a score of 72.
Play continues at Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, R.I. Sunday to close out the two-day tournament.
