SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Spencer Sweitzer (Lunenburg, Mass.) repeated his round-two score of 77 for a overall score of 228 to lead the Bryant University golf team in the final round of the Hartford Hawk Invitational Tuesday, as the Bulldogs finished the two-day tournament 13th overall.
Walk-on newcomer Brendan Allen (Chelmsford, Mass.) shot a 79 to close out the three-round tournament and finished tied for 56th overall in his collegiate debut (233), good for second on the team behind Sweitzer's 40th-place finish.
Samuel Russell (Southampton, Mass.) carded a 76 to lead the Bulldogs in the final frame, but finished with a three-round score of 234 to enter into a tie for 59th at the conclusion of Tuesday action. Conor McGovern (South Darien, Conn.) recorded a 79 for a total of 236 and a tie for 65th, while Grant Certuse (Mansfield, Mass.)'s 242 tied the senior at 76th overall after a final-round 82.
As a team, the Bulldogs carded a 311 in round-three action for a 927 overall score and a 13th-place finish in the field of 17. UConn held onto the top spot with an 868 on the tournament, while Husky Jeb Buchanan won a four-golfer playoff that lasted four holes to take the individual title with a three-under-par 213.
The Bulldogs return to action Oct. 15-16 at the Classic at Shelter Harbor, hosted by URI in Westerly, R.I.
