BRYANT SET TO TAKE ON MERRIMACK IN FIRST-EVER LACROSSE DOUBLEHEADER AT GILLETTE STADIUM SATURDAY (3 P.M.)

SMITHFIELD, RI -- The No. 7 Bryant University men's lacrosse team returns to the turf Saturday, April 5, hosting Northeast-10 Conference rival No. 6 Merrimack College -- only it won't be Smithfield turf they'll be playing on.

Rather, the Bulldogs (5-3, 2-1 NE-10) will play the home team on Foxboro turf this weekend, when they take on the Warriors (5-1, 2-1) in the first-ever lacrosse game at Gillette Stadium. Bryant and Merrimack will face off at 3:00 p.m. in the second game of a Division I/Division II combination that will feature a noontime Cornell/Harvard matchup.

Tickets to the games, which were scheduled in anticipation of the 2008 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships to be held at Gillette on May 24-26, will be $13 and will cover both contests. All tickets are General Admission and there is no charge for parking at the stadium.

Advance tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com.

Bryant enters Saturday's bout fresh off an 8-5 win over conference foe Saint Michael's, a game highlighted by five points off four goals and an assist from junior Bryan Kaufmann (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Mahopac) to lead all scorers. Classmate Kevin Hoagland (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) tallied two goals and two helpers, helping Bryant improve to 9-0 all-time versus the Purple Knights.

Merrimack is coming off a hardfought 6-5 win over Bentley College on April 1, led by freshman Michael Balbuena, who scored a career-high three goals. Sophomore Cory Spinale did his part between the pipes for the Warriors, turning away 19 Falcon shots to get the win.

In their last faceoff in 2007, the Bulldogs put an end to Merrimack's conference tournament run, topping the Warriors, 19-11, in the NE-10 semifinals. Bryant also took the regular-season matchup at Merrimack, 12-11.
