SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's lacrosse team inked its newest member Friday with a special Draft Day signing of seven-year-old Cael Schneider of Smithfield, R.I. Cael, who battles cystic fibrosis, was drafted as the newest Bulldog with the help of Team IMPACT.
Cael, along with his parents and sister, was introduced to his new teammates for the first time Friday evening at Bulldog Stadium, as the entire Bryant roster was on hand to present the team's newest member with his own locker and No. 38 jersey signed by the entire team.
In addition to his jersey, Cael was fully equipped by his new team, getting showered with a gamut of Bulldog gear, including team sweats, t-shirt and program-issued stick. Named an honorary captain, Cael and his entire family were also presented with VIP All-Access Season Passes that will admit them to any Bryant University home game throughout the 2013-14 season.
Following the announcement and celebration of his signing, Cael took to the field to test out his new gear and get some pointers on his game from the likes of All-American Kevin Massa and other new teammates.
Team IMPACT is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses by matching them with college athletic teams across the Northeast. The organization helps establish team-based support networks and cultivate meaningful bonds between these courageous kids and their chosen teams to provide strength, support, love and laughter for the children and their families.
