September 11, 2004

SMITHFIELD, RI ?The Bryant University men?s soccer team won its third straight Northeast-10 Conference game today beating Stonehill College 5-0, in the game played at Sutton Field.

The Bulldogs were led by senior Clint Stonacek (Omaha, Neb.) who netted two goals and added an assist. Freshman Matt Amsden (North Providence, RI) also chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Bryant (3-2-0) started the game a bit slowly trying to feel out the Chieftains. Then 29:06 into the game sophomore Joe Trunacali (Unionville, Conn.) got a great assist from Amsden to net the Bulldogs first goal. The second goal of the half came only two minutes later when Stonacek broke free and scored an unassisted goal.

The Bulldogs offense took over in the second half, scoring three more times. First Amsden scored a goal off an assist from Stonacek. Stonacek then followed that with a goal of his own off an assist from sophomore Wheeler Smith (Franklin, Mass.). The last goal off the game came with just under a minute left when junior Daniel Kwarteng (Worcester, Mass.) took an assist from Justin Stepmowski (Glastonbury, Conn.) and scored.

Junior goalie Peter Kostaras (Long Island, NY) and sophomore goalie Alex Bissias (Harpswell, ME) each played a half for the Bulldogs in the shutout.

The Bulldogs will return action Saturday September 18, when they play St. Michael?s at 10:00 am. The game will be played at Sutton Field on the campus of Bryant University.
