Bryant Outlasts St. Michael?s and Weather, Win 2-1
September 18, 2004
SMITHFIELD, RI ? The Bryant University men?s soccer team outlasted not only Saint Michael?s college to get the 2-1 win today at Sutton Field, but they also outlasted the remnants of Hurricane Ivan.
Ivan which has pounded parts of the United States with rain and high winds is now dumping considerable amounts of rain on New England, and Smithfield was no exception today.
Both teams played hard through the elements and eventually got use to the weather. Saint Michael?s appeared to figure the weather out first by scoring the first goal of the game midway through the first half. Pablo Noguera took a misplayed ball by Bryant and scored it at 16:33 to take the early 1-0 led.
Bryant (4-3-0) finally broke into the scoring column in the second, scoring two goals for the win. First junior Ben Cramer (Marlborough, Mass.) took a pass from senior Clint Stonacek (Omaha, Neb.) and blasted a shot past the Purple Knights goalie. The Bulldogs followed that goal up with the game winner at 73:41, when senior Joe Vouris (Islip, NY) scored off an assist from sophomore Joe Truncali (Unionville, Conn.).
Junior goalie Peter Kostaras (Long Island, NY) got the win in goal for Bryant saving two shots.
Bryant will return to action Tuesday, September 21, when they travel to Merrimack. Game time is set for 3:30 PM.
