Lowell Beats Bryant 3-1 in Northeast-10 Quarters

LOWELL, MASS. ? The Bryant University men?s soccer team lost 3-1 to UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Quarterfinal game played to today in Lowell.
The Riverhawks scored all three of their goals in the first half and never looked back. Their first goal came when Jason Paige flicked Michael Cafeteiro?s rolling free kick past Bryant goalkeeper Thomas Madden (Saco, ME).
Their second goal came in the 35th minute, when Cafeteiro launched a corner kick across the box to senior Jonathan Curran who out jumped two defenders to head the ball to sophomore Andrew Doherty who scored it for the 2-0 led.
Lowell?s (14-2-1) third goal of the half came when Kyle Burson flicked a Cafeteiro corner kick to Curran, who broke free from a pair of defenders and slid a shot by Madden to take the 3-0 halftime led.
Both defensives came to play in the second not allowing a goal until the 79th minute when Bryant got on the board. The lone Bulldogs goal came when freshman Nick
Balistierri (Glastonbury, CT) took possession out of a scramble and bended a shot inside the far post from just outside the box for the 3-1 final.
The River Hawks outshot the Bulldogs, 11-6 overall. Madden stopped three shots and Bobby Ritter stopped two shots for UML.
