Men's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker To Bentley, 1-0
October 5, 2004
SMITHFIELD, RI ? Bentley would score the game's only goal midway through the second half and hold on to defeat the Bryant men's soccer team 1-0 Tuesday afternoon.
The only goal of the game came at the 57:06 mark when Mike Purpura got a mishandled defensive ball, carried it past a defender, and beat goalkeeper Alex Bissias for what would prove to be the game-winner for the Falcons.
The first half saw Bryant (5-5-2) out-shoot the Falcons 9-4, but the Bulldogs were unable to convert. The best scoring chance for Bryant came at the 26:00 minute mark when senior Clint Stonacek (Omaha, Neb.) took a pass and had a solid shot on goal, but Bentley?s Greg Ott made a strong save to keep the game scoreless.
The second half also saw Bryant out-shoot the Bentley 5-4 but again, the Bulldogs were able to find the back of the net. Ott made seven saves in the game to get the win and sophomore Alex Bissias (Harpswell, ME) took the loss for Bryant making 4 saves.
Bryant will return to action Saturday, October 9, when they host UMass Lowell at Bulldog Stadium. Game time is set for 1:00PM.
