Stonacek?s Two Goals Leads Bulldogs to 3-2OT Victory

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. ? Senior Clint Stonacek (Omaha, Neb.) scored two goals including the game winner in overtime to give the Bryant University the 3-2 win over Northeast-10 Conference foe Merrimack in a game played in North Andover.

The Bulldogs (5-3-0, 5-1-0 Northeast-10) opened the scoring just 1:14 into the contest with senior Luke Hovey (Warwick, RI) netting his second goal of the season. Hovey was at the back post and received a crossing pass from senior Jon Feinman (Amherst, MA) and tipped the ball into the open net.

Merrimack then answered with a goal of their own when Farid Issa scored just 45 seocnds later off assists from Rob Maiocco and John Schroeder.

Stonacek scored his first goal of the match, at 16:30 by, carrying the ball down the left side of the field and blasting a shot off a Merrimack defender and collected the rebound and tucking it just inside the far post. Then at 20:12, Diego Gabadian tied the match a 2-2 for the Warriors, who saw their seven game winning streak halted, with a free kick placed just under the cross bar from 25 yards out.

That was all the scoring in the match until the second overtime when Stonacek ended the contest as he found the ball near the goal line and tipped the ball into the empty net. Keith Boudreau made the initial save on freshman Kyle Tierney?s (Westborough, MA) shot, but he ball fell behind Boudreau right to Stonacek

Bryant?s next game will be Saturday September 25, when they travel to non-league opponent Felician. Game time is set for 1:00PM.
