SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Senior Joe Vouris (Islip, N.Y.) scored the game-winner in the 65th minute to help lead the Bryant University men?s soccer team to a 3-2 Northeast-10 Conference win here Wednesday. With the win, the Bulldogs even their record to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast-10. A.I.C., which got two goals from Akill Jules (Trinidad), falls for the first time this season (3-1, 1-1 NE-10).
After both teams played to a scoreless first half, Bryant?s Clint Stonacek (Omaha, Neb.) put the Bulldogs on the board with his fourth goal of the season. With the Bulldogs on the offensive, forward Joe Truncali (Unionville, Conn.) sent a beautiful cross from the right side to Stonacek who put a low shot past Yellow Jacket goalie Phil Torres (Woonsocket, R.I.).
Minutes later, it was Truncali again setting up another score with an excellent cross from the right. This time, the Bulldog sophomore found Luke Hovey (Warwick, R.I./ Tollgate) in front for a header to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.
AIC would answer, as Jules put in a short shot inside the goal box after an initial shot from Charles Branche (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Vouris would stretch the lead to 3-1 moments later. With the Bulldogs countering, Vouris beat an A.I.C. down the left side and sent in a low shot past the reach of Torres in the 67th minute and Bryant was able to hang on.
The Bulldogs will host Stonehill on Saturday (10 a.m.).
