Men's Soccer Drops Opener,4 -1 at San Francisco State
San Francisco, Calif.---? In both team?s 2005 season opener, it was the host San Francisco State University Gators defeating the visiting Bulldogs of Bryant University 4-1 this afternoon at SFSU?s Cox Stadium.?
Junior Kyle Loftis connected on a chip shot off the right hand corner at the 4:21 mark of the first half to start the scoring for the Gators.
Six minutes later at the 10:11 mark, junior college transfer George Nixon connected on his first goal as a Gator.? Senior forward Mark Cipolla connected off a missed penalty kick attempt to give the Gators 3-0 lead 1:40 into the second half.?
Bryant?s Michael Anania connected on an assist from Joe Truncali to draw the Bulldogs closer 3-1 at the 65:11 mark.? SF State?s Paul Carter connected on a kick from Nixon for the final goal of the match and give the Gators a 4-1 victory with less than 15 minutes left in the match.
Kenny Brandenburg recorded five saves in goal for the Gators while Tom Madden had four saves in goal for Bryant.? SF State out shot the Bulldogs 18-10 including 11-2 in the first half.?
Bryant will finish off their West Coast trip this Sunday afternoon in San Rafael, California, for a non-conference game with the Dominican University Penquins.?
