Bulldogs remain unbeaten at home

Smithfield, RI - The Bryant University men’s soccer team welcomed Saint Anselm to Bulldog stadium on a sunny September 28, Wednesday afternoon. The Bulldogs came back from a 2-0 deficit and defeated the Hawks 4-3 in double overtime. Bryant is now 3-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Bryant got off to a slow start and would trail early 2-0 due to a goal by Hawk leading scorer Seth Ebbeling (Northbridge, MA) and a tally by Tyler Waldrupe (Manchester, NH). The Bulldogs would battle back in the second half scoring three consecutive goals in under 12 minutes to take a 3-2 lead.

Senior Michael Anania (Warren, RI) would score first for Bryant increasing his season point total to seven. Freshman Manny Rodriguez (North Branford, CT) would tie the game at 2-2 with a goal eight minutes later. Ben Cramer (Marlborough, MA) had the assist on both of the goals. Sophomore Kyle Tierney (Westborough, MA) gave the Bulldogs their first lead just three minutes later on a pass from freshman Jeremy Borges (Middletown, RI) who found the ball at his feet off a corner kick.

The Hawks would tie the game at 3-3 under a minute after Bryant took the lead when a missed coverage resulted in a score by freshman Sam Lamptey (Worcester, MA).

The first overtime session was back and forth with little action. Two and a half minutes into the second overtime Ben Cramer ripped a shot right at the keeper. Goalie Tim Galligan (Framingham, MA) would stop the ball with his chest but the ball would roll between his legs with backspin and into the net for the game winner. The Bulldogs won the match in thrilling fashion 4-3 in double overtime.

The Bulldogs will visit Le Moyne on Saturday, October 1 at 1:00pm.
