BULLDOGS BLANKED BY TERRIERS, 3-0, SATURDAY AFTERNOON
BROOKLYN, NY- The Bryant University men's soccer team fell to future NEC rival St. Francis (NY), 3-0, in Brooklyn, New York Saturday afternoon. The Terriers (6-1-1), who came into the game ranked third in the North Atlantic Region according to this week's NSCAA/Adidas poll, received goals from three different players on their way to their fourth straight win. The Bulldogs (1-8-1) were held scoreless for the sixth straight game and have now dropped five straight.
The Terriers jumped on the Bulldogs early when Jeverton Delorenzi put home a goal off a rebound in the 6th minute of play to stake St. Francis to a 1-0. The goal would prove to be all the Terriers would need, as keeper Chris Antonino made three stops in net to record the shutout.
The Bulldogs kept the game close, still trailing by the same 1-0 score, until midway through the second half when Alex Silaco scored his third goal of the season off a free kick in the 71st minute to push the St. Francis lead to 2-0. John Baptist Joseph added a goal just seven minutes later, finding the back of the net off a shot that hit the post, making the score 3-0, which is how the game would end.
Freshman keeper Andrew Snell (South Salem, N.Y.), who got his first career start in net for the Bulldogs, made four stops while playing all 90 minutes. Senior captain Manny Rodriguez (Branford, Conn.) recorded three shots in the loss, as the Bulldogs were outshot 13-9 for the game, but just 7-6 in the second half.
Bryant will be on the road at Central Connecticut State University Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).
