MEN'S SOCCER BLANKED BY RAMS, 3-0, FRIDAY NIGHT
RICHMOND,VA - The Virginia Commonwealth Rams (1-2-0), got two
goals from sophomore Jorit Loehr (Bremen, Germany) on their way to
a, 3-0, win over Bryant Friday night in Richmond, Virginia. VCU
outshot the Bulldogs 18-6 in the contest, as sophomore goalkeeper
Victor Tutino (Deer Park, N.Y.) made 6 stops in net for
Bryant.
VCU struck for two late first half goals to break a scoreless tie,
the first coming in the 39th minute when Owusu Sekyere
(Suame-Kumasi, Ghana) lofted a pass from the midfield to Loehr who
found the back of the net for a, 1-0, advantage for the Rams. Just
over a minute later, Gerson Dos Santos (Sao Paolo, Brazil) scored
on a penalty kick to give VCU a, 2-0, lead at the half.
The Bulldogs (0-2-0) played the Rams even for the majority of the
second half, but were not able to find a way to beat keeper Andrew
Dykstra (Woodbridge, Va.) who made two saves on his way to a
shutout. Sekyere would combine once again with Loehr in the
88th minute, when he hit a corner kick to the middle of
the box that Loehr headed just past the reach of Tutino, giving the
Rams a, 3-0, victory.
Bryant will play their final game of the Nike/Alltel Classic when they take on Richmond on Sunday at the University of Richmond (12 p.m.).
