MEN IN FOURTH BEHIND THREE FIRST-PLACE FINISHES AFTER DAY 2 OF NE-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Bryant men's and women's swim teams are currently fourth overall after the second day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Saturday night at Southern Connecticut State University. The women have 298.5 points, trailing Southern Connecticut (538), Le Moyne (534.5) and Bentley College (377). The men have 364 points, also good for fourth through 40 events, trailing Southern Connecticut (531), Bentley College (422) and Le Moyne (368).
On the men's side, first-place finishes from Tom Ferrigno in the 400-yard IM (4:11.64) and Bryant Amitrano in the 50-yard freestyle (21.70) led the Bulldogs in a big Day 2. Ray Savner and Mike Gilligan took fourth and fifth, respectively, behind Amitrano in the 50-yard free in times of 22.49 and 22.51. The three teamed up with John Cieslewski to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.31. Other top finishers were freshman Steven Nguyen, who took third in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard breaststroke and James Newton, who took home fourth- and sixth-place finishes on the day.
Ferrigno's 400-yard IM time qualifies him for the national "B" cut.
The conference championships continue Sunday.
