SOUTH KINGSTON, R.I. - The Bryant University men's and women's swim teams took part in the University of Rhode Island Harold Anderson Invitational Friday and Saturday. The women finished sixth with 286 team points.
Highlighting the day for the Bulldogs was a strong performance from Jessica Looney. Looney took sixth-place in the women's 500 freestyle in 5:20.52 and later took second-place honors in the 400 individual medley, touching the wall in a time of 4:45.71. Teammate Abby Whittaker was next, coming in fourth in 4:55.34.
Freshman Amy D'Olympia placed 13th overall in the women's 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.39 seconds . Julie Moran was next in 19th in 27.13.
On the men's side, Tom Ferrigno reeled in several second-place finishes over the two-day meet. The senior from West Chester, PA took second in the 400 individual medley in 4:15.15 and later took runner-up honors in both the 1,000 freestyle (9:55.73) and 200 backstroke (1:59.64).
Mike Gilligan broke a school record in the 100 yard freestlye with a time of 49.15, breaking the previous record of 49.21 held by teammate Ray Savner.
Steve Nguyen placed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:52.09 and later placed fifth in the 200 IM (2:01.39). Ray Savner earned a sixth-place finish in the 50 free (22.41) and played a key role in the relays as well as Bryant's 200 meter freestyle relay team took home second in 1:29.24 and later earned a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:40.86, good enough to qualify them for the ECAC tournament.
