Bulldogs Begin first Northeast-10 Swimming Championship

NEW HAVEN, CT-   On a day that saw the three-time reigning Northeast-10 champion Connecticut State Owls jump out to a quick start, the Bulldogs, competing in the event for the first time, showed they belonged with the big boys in the conference. The Bulldogs, in just their second year of swimming at the varisty level under Coach Katie Cameron kicked off the Northeast-10 championships Friday in New Haven. 
 
The women, led by talented freshman Jess Looney (Goffstown, NH), finished the first day of action in third place. Looney finished second in the 1650 yard freestyle and teamed with Dayna Konko (Staten Island, NY), Lauren Jette (Old Lyme, CT), and Sarah Lang (Monroe, CT) to finish third in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
 
The men finished the day in sixth place. The quartet of Ray Savner (Bethlehem, CT), James Newton (Rockland, MA), Nate Olszewski (Blandford, MA) and Joel Martineau (Spencer, MA) finished fourth in the 800-yard relay.  
 
The Owls, who have captured the championship every year since the championship began in 2003, lead both the men's and women's events.
 
Action resumes Saturday at the Hutchinson Nanatorium.
