BRYANT SWIMMING COMPETES AT BENTLEY INVITATIONAL
WALTHAM, Mass. - The Bryant men's and women's swim teams concluded a busy weekend on Sunday with a pair of fifth place finishes at the Bentley Invitational. After both team's earned season-opening wins at home against Roger Williams on Saturday, the Bryant men placed fifth out of seven teams with 67 points while the Bulldog women were fifth out of eight teams with 77 points.
Sophomore standout Jess Looney led the women's team on the day. Among the many highlights was a first place finish in the 200 yard backstroke, touching the wall in two minutes, 15:43 seconds. She was also add a third place finish in the 200 yard freestyle in 2:02.08 while teammate Jill Hira was close behind in fourth in 2:02.85.
Freshman Jill Squillante took home second in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 56.78.
On the men's side, Tom Ferrigno captured top honors in the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 2:01.98, edging Bentley's Arthur Engelhard who was second in 2:05.39. James Newton placed fifth in the 200 backstroke, clocking in a t 2:07.05.
Ray Savner took fourth place in the 50 yard freestyle in 22.90 while teammate Mike Gilligan looked strong in the 100 yard freestyle, placing second in 50.12 seconds, just behind Yoshi Kameyama of Pace who won the event in 49.34.
The Bulldogs will host Husson and Eastern Connecticut this Friday night.
