NOWAK, WHITING LOOK STRONG THROUGH DAY 1 AT QUINNIPIAC INVITATIONAL
HAMDEN, CONN- Juniors Tom Nowak (Medfield, Mass.) and Dylan Whiting (Florence, Mass.) won two matches yesterday playing first doubles at the first day of the Quinnipiac Invitational tournament. Whiting and Nowak defeated teams from Quinnipiac, 8-6, and Fairfield, 8-3, to advance to the semi-final match today where they will take on a team from UConn.
Cristian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) and Jose Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) fell in the first round of first doubles to Fairfield, 8-4.
Kevin Gardiner (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Nicholai Hill (Ottawa, Canada) also lost in the first round, falling in a tiebreaker 9-7 to Quinnipiac in second doubles.
The tournament will continue today, finishing up the doubles tournament and beginning singles mathes this afternoon.
