MEN'S TENNIS TAKES, 7-0, WIN OVER HOLY CROSS SATURDAY

WORCESTER, MASS. - The Bryant University men's tennis team was perfect Saturday afternoon against Holy Cross, winning all seven possible points to take the duel match victory, 7-0, on the road. The victory improved the Bulldogs to 7-6 on the season.

The team could not have played much better, not losing a single set on the afternoon. Cristian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) got things started with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Matt Wierzel in first singles. Dylan Whiting (Florence, Mass.) had one of the tougher matches of the day in second singles, winning his first set, 7-5, in a tiebreak before cruising to a, 6-1, win in the second set. In third singles, Kevin Gardiner (Powder Springs, Ga.) defeated Jay DeSanto, 6-3, 6-2, while Tom Nowak (Medfield, Mass.), Nicholai Hill (Ottawa, Ontario) and Dan Cournoyer (Jefferson, Mass.) combined to lose just four games between their three matcher. Cournoyer did not lose a single game, beating Tom Stenert, 6-0, 6-0.

The squad also took the three doubles matches, with Whiting and Hill winning first doubles, 8-3, Gardiner and Nowak taking second doubles, 8-3, and Balestrieri and Zehn Laliwala (Bagalore, India) winning third doubles, 8-4.

Bryant is next in action next Saturday, April 4, when they host NJIT (1:30 p.m.).
